2014 Commonwealth Games Village

The esteemed Games Village has been designed with the assist of Commonwealth athletes, creating a new community on the banks of the River Clyde. UK-based international architecture RMJM has secured the contract to plan the Athletes' Village for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, UK.

As the master planner and design champion for the winning City Legacy Consortium, RMJM will make 700 homes and related accommodation for up to 8,000 athletes and officials with an advance 765 homes planned after the games. The design concept maximizes the nearness to the River Clyde and provides a high proportion of green space, amenity land and water features within the site.

It will be separated into 6-8 themed areas based on Scottish glens, clearly signposted and colour coded to aid orientation through the site. The Village master plan incorporates a diversity of house sizes and types.

They will contain 4, 3 and 2 story dwellings, with a combine of apartments, townhouses, detached and semi detached houses. This variety of housing types will give maximum flexibility for the Games.

At the heart of the design solution is the Village legacy which considers how the site will develop after the Games are finished to provide a sustainable urban living environment. Additional units, transport connections, community buildings, local facilities and amenities and high-quality pedestrian flow will all be integrated into the solution.
