India who is playing host along with Korea, Canada, and South Africa has previously qualified for the World Cup. The further seven teams was select in November 2009.

The 2010 Hero Honda Hockey World Cup will be a combined venture among FIH and the Indian Hockey Confederation (IHC). The 12th Men's Hockey World Cup, played by the 12 great countries. The dates of Hero Honda hockey World Cup championship will now take place from February 28 to March 13, The 12 greatest teams of the world will contribute in the championship that will held at the National Stadium in New Delhi.

2010 Men's Hockey World Cup India
India has previous hosted the world cup in 1982 at Mumbai when it ended fifth. On 07 Nov 07, FIH confirmed New Delhi as the place for 2010 Men's Hero Honda World Cup Hockey. The 12 international teams will fight out the battle for first position throughout the month of February at the Major Dhyanchand National Stadium in New Delhi.
On the beginning day of the Hero Honda hockey World Cup 2010 on February 28th, two Asian arch-rivals India and Pakistan will meet each other. Thirty match will be played including final, during the two weeks long Hero Honda Hockey World Cup 2010. Twelve countries are contributing in the jumbo event of Hockey and are separated into two pools.
Argentina, Korea, Netherlands, Canada, Germany, and New Zealand are in Pool A whereas host India, Australia, Pakistan, South Africa, England and Spain are in Pool B.
