Korean New Year

In Korea, Sol-nal is the first day of the first month of the New Year. While many Koreans people celebrate the New Year on January 1st of the solar calendar, the lunar New Year is still popular today. In many Korean societies, the New Year has celebrated twice.Korean New Year is an occasion to follow various traditions and rituals in Korea.
 
It is typically family oriented holiday. The three day of holiday is used to return to hometowns to visit their parents and other relatives where they perform the family ritual called "charye". Sol-nal, like New Year's in the Western cultures, is a day for rejuvenation, a day for recommitting oneself to whatever one believes imperative. Korean Luner New Year


The Korean Luner New Year will fall on February 3 in 2011, the first day of the month of Luner calendar. It is Korea's biggest holiday of the year. Women get busy to preparing the food from the before day. They usually cook "ttok," "garettok," fried meats. They purchase fruits, clean the fishes and so on. On the first day of the New Year, all families and relatives arrive in the house of their eldest brother.

Because Korea has been a paternal culture so far, they have to come back to their father, who has supported by the eldest brother. On the next day of the New Year, they spend the day getting the heart events ready for congratulating the first day of the year and offering their pity and the aged people. On the last day of the occasion is the day for finishing all the gatherings and going back home.On Korean Lunar New Year, many conventional games are played. Some of them exist kite flying, top spinning, snow sliding or the yut game. Yut game is one of the initial games that are still popular even today.
