As the new year approaches, New York City gets ready for its annual Times Square celebration.

As the famous New Year's Eve Ball descends from the flagpole atop One Times Square, an estimated one million people in Times Square, millions nationwide and over a billion watching throughout the world are united in bidding a collective farewell to the departing year, and expressing our joy and hope for the year ahead.

There's no more electrifying place on the planet than Time Square on New Year's Eve. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people descend upon Times Square to experience this free event. New Year's Eve at the symbolic center of New York City has become more than just a celebration - it's a global tradition. The world holds its breath...and cheers as the clocks strike twelve.

Times Square New Year's Eve Ball
Each year, millions of eyes from all over the world are focused on the sparkling Waterford Crystal Times Square New Year's Eve Ball. At 11:59 p.m., the Ball begins its descent as millions of voices unite to count down the final seconds of the year, and celebrate the beginning of a new year full of hopes, challenges, changes and dreams.
So, if you are planning to come to this year's Times Square celebration, just remember to dress warm, bring your own food and drink (non-alcoholic) and get here early. A couple things you will want to consider before you decide to usher in the New Year at Times Square are that it is sure to be cold and that you will at some point feel like you are part of a cattle drive.
Once again, if you want to be part of the party at Times Square, you should consider arriving early, as it begins to fill up in the afternoon. You should be aware of Street Closings that will cut off access to parts of the city. The streets will begin closing at 43rd Street at about 6:00pm and move north as more people arrive.
New Year Eve in Times Square is a gala Event. It is such an event that one wants to view this atleast once in a lifetime.
