Buddhist New Year

There are many festivals, events and occasions celebrated by the Buddhist people all around the world. Buddhist new year is celebrated in Tibet and Thailand with great joy and enthusiasm. New year is celebrated all over the world irrespective of the caste, community and ethnicity. New year is celebrated on different days in different countries. Similarly, Buddhist new year is also celebrated on different day. The celebration takes place for three days from the first full moon day in April.

In theravadin countries, Thailand, Burma, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Loa, new yea is celebrated with great zeal and zest. Buddhism religion is eminently and largely followed by a major part of population in many countries but in some countries it is an existing religion due to which the Buddhist celebrations are made in huge extends. All the countries where Buddhist population is comparatively more hold different values and principles of Buddhism but especially on new years, people unite and celebrate the Buddhist new year together by organizing a private home party.

Having already said that the Buddhist new year is celebrated for three days from the first full moon day in April but in Mahayana countries, the new year usually starts on the first full moon day in January whereas the Tibetan Buddhists celebrate it is the month of march.
